Year 1

In Year 1 we build on the foundations of EYFS, beginning to teach in a more formal structure. 

The boys continue to develop their independence through daily routines and take on more responsibility as library monitors and Eco Council members. 

Our curriculum extends on the National Curriculum, providing the boys with exciting learning opportunities in all subjects.

In English we develop the boys’ creative writing by looking at well known authors and rewriting versions of their stories. We also build on the boys’ knowledge of phonics, comprehension and composition using the Read Write Inc scheme.

In Maths we use Maths No Problem, a Singapore Maths scheme focussing on number, shape, measure and data handling.  

We also inspire the boys with varied topics including The Human Body, The Tudors, The United States of America and Judaism. 

Boys are taken on educational visits to enhance their learning and they continue to benefit from specialist teachers in Art, Language, Music and P.E. 

In Year 1, we provide the stepping stones for the next stage of the boys’ educational journey into Year 2.
