YEAR 6
To consolidate our work on electricity and light during
the second half of the autumn term, two Mad Scientists
came into school to lead a workshop and junior
assembly.
Mad Scientist “Titanium Tilly” started the workshop by
asking a series of questions on building circuits, which
the boys answered expertly. This was followed by a
series of challenges involving making circuits, finding
electrical conductors and building a game where the
object was to move along a wire without setting off the
buzzer!!!!
We then moved onto exploring how light travels. We
got the opportunity to touch the plasma ball and
everyone wore diffraction glasses to see the different
colours of light. Tilly was so impressed with everyone’s
scientific knowledge, so much so that she had to raid
her science resources for extra extension activities.
The workshop was followed by an assembly for
Marlborough Road, where the rest of the school got to
experience a range of scientific investigations that
involved making potions and explosions. It was great
fun!!!!
Here are just a few quotes from the boys:
“When Mad Science visited us Titanium Tilly showed us
some amazing things. The glasses that we wore
showed how a light refracts. It looked like a rainbow
when we wore them!! She also showed us a plasma
ball. When you touched it, the electricity came to your
finger.” Saksham
“Mad science was hosted by Titanium Tilly for Year 6.
There were lots of fun activities such as guess the let-
ter with the correct wire and using the plasma ball but
my favourite activity involved some mad science
glasses. Mad science was brilliant and I thoroughly
enjoyed it” Arvi
“The plasma ball made me feel like electricity went into
my hand. It almost felt as if I had the force and a very
tingly sensation.” Eesah
“When Mad Science came to school they showed us all
sorts of crazy things and experiments but the stuff they
showed us was also very educational” Joe
“During the assembly they told us about centrifugal
force but swinging a cup of water round at speed. They
also made chemical reactions using fairy liquid!!”
