Through the keyhole
One of our English topics this term has been
writing a story set in a magical or fantastical land.
In order to get to them, however, the boys had
to have their characters pass through a doorway.
The boys wrote descriptions of their doorways
and incorporated these into their stories.
The ideas that the boys came up with were
impressive indeed and there was some excellent
writing involved. There was also a great deal of
effort put in to creating images of the doorways
(which the boys did for homework). So good,
in fact, that some were put on display in the
entrance hall for all to see
The Christmas Story
In a cross-curricular project in the lead up to
Christmas the boys of Year 4 created their own
booklets retelling the Christmas story from the
point of view of Mary and Joseph, the shepherds,
the Three Wise Men and even King Herod.
The project blended our work in English and R.E.
and allowed the boys to put their own spin on
those events from long ago.
Did you know...
The Year 4 boys have recently been looking at
information texts in their English work.
They have discussed how they are different to
other forms of writing and how this effects the
structure and language involved in creating an
effective one.
Picking a particular animal that interested them,
the boys researched in order to produce their
own notes, organised those notes into a cohesive
structure and then used technical vocabulary to
disseminate the information.
