SPORT
Yet
another term which sees every boy in Years 3-6
have the chance to represent the school at a team sport
and an individual sport. During the term in games
lessons, inter-school fixtures, house matches, after
school and lunchtime clubs, boys have enjoyed taking
part in football, rugby, hockey, golf, cross-country, table
tennis, gymnastics and swimming.
The new Year 3 boys on arrival at Marlborough Road
didn’t quite know what had hit them when they found
themselves playing five different sports in the space of
four days and their parents went from wondering if their
sons’ would get a chance to play the different
sports to wondering how to get their kit clean in
time for the next event! Thanks for your patience
Year 3 Mums and Dads – we are sure that you
will get used to such frantic times as your
predecessors have done.
Year 6 boys played some excellent football, com-
fortably beating schools such as Ryleys, Terra
Nova and The Grange and finished in a very good

rd
place at the Midlands Prep Schools Tourna-
ment at Repton. The team finished ahead of the
likes of Wolverhampton R.G.S., Solihull School
and Nottingham High School after losing a semi-
final narrowly on the golden goal rule.
Year 5 boys also played some great football,
including a thrilling win against Kings Chester,
and at their only tournament were unlucky to fin-
ish 3
rd
after conceding just one goal in the entire
competition.
As has been the case for quite a few years now,
all Year 3 and Year 4 boys had several chances to
play football for the school, often in year group
fixtures on the outfield at Bowdon C.C. or away
from home. They all showed good team skills
which have been developed during P.E. lessons
and a fantastic sense of sportsmanship. This also
helped the boys achieve plenty of fantastic
results.
All the boys in Years 3-6 were also given the opportunity
to run for the school at cross-country at the league
meetings at John Leigh Park and over fifty boys ran over
the three meetings. Harry from Year 6 won the individ-
ual title, having won all three races, with the team
finishing third overall. Twenty four boys ran at the Year
3-5 Independent Schools Fun Run at Pownall Park and
maroon shirts were dominant in all three races!!
