Altrincham Preparatory School - La Presse Scolaire December 2013 - page 20

The Year 5/6 hockey players began their quest to
match the A.P.S. teams of the last two years which
reached the I.A.P.S. National Finals. The warm up
matches this term were against two strong
independent schools in Kings Chester and Cheadle
Hulme, where despite only winning one game, the
A.P.S. boys showed good stick skills and improved
throughout, so they will be well prepared for
fixtures against other prep schools during the
spring term.
The swimmers had two tough galas against
Merchant Taylors and mixed teams from
Stonyhurst, Rossall and St. Pius where the girl
swimmers proved just too quick for the A.P.S. boys.
After a term of swimming where the Year 4 boys
improved all their strokes, we had a Year 4 Swim-
ming Gala, where the Cunningham house team
(Blues) just beat Montgomery (Reds) to the title in
a close finish after the final race.
The usual golf coaching for Year 5 boys took place
with the professional at Ringway Golf Club and was
taken up by nearly 30 boys. He was not only
impressed with their skills but also their approach
and manners when seeking to improve their
driving, chipping and putting.
As ever the Year 3 boys thoroughly enjoyed the
after school gym club with its legendary gymnastics
courses and the Year 6 boys played some great
table tennis on the dark November Wednesday
nights, culminating in a competitive and closely
fought tournament.
Finally, Mr Birch and Mr Lingley would like to thank
all the parents who have helped with transport and
supported boys positively during our fixtures this
term and we would like to remind you to check the
school website in the New Year for information on
games lessons, match reports and fixtures dur-
ing the whole of the spring term. Here’s hoping for
good weather in 2014, so we can continue to play
a wide variety of sports and continue to allow as
many boys as possible the chance to represent the
school.
