Kenya
Our Geography topic this last half term before Easter
has been Kenya and the boys have been fascinated
to learn about it over the last few weeks.
From identifying exactly where it is positioned in the
world and on the continent of Africa, to the physical
make-up of the terrain, the people and animals that
populate it and its climate, the boys have found out a
great deal in a short space of time.
They discovered even more interesting facts when
they did some research of their own on the country.
Stockport Museum and Air Raid Shelters
Our annual trip to the Stockport Museum and Air Raid
Shelters was once more a great success, with the boys
thoroughly looking the part as they marched through
Stockport.
Museum staff (all in costume and character) provided a
wonderful mix of fun and education, extending the boys’
knowledge and understanding of what it may have been
like to be evacuated.
The boys learned about salvage (ask them about being a
COG), Make-do and Mend (get those knitting lessons
started!) and ARP (gas masks on!).
The shelters themselves, were a treat for the boys who
were fascinated by the thoughts of spending nights down
there. A wonderful visit for all!
Art Attack!
Over the last few weeks Miss Evans (our Edge Hill University
trainee teacher in Y4 this term) has taken a few of the boys
from 4S under her artistic wing and extended their
extra-curricular opportunities by letting them choose an art
project which particularly inspired them. One group chose
self-portraits while the other were interested to do some
work involving nature.
Both groups have enjoyed the experience immensely and
have developed their talents successfully over the weeks
