The Stars are like our Dreams. Whilst you may never reach them, you can chart your course by them. If you limit
ambitions and aspirations to the parochial, you will never know what latent potentialities lie within your grasp.
This is why we test ourselves, across a breadth of domains, against the best whilst at the same time providing
opportunity for all.
This past term is the one in which academic outcomes against which the school tests itself are revealed which,
whilst personal, do reside more in the public domain though we can only accumulate statistics from Parental
feedback – we do have internal systems of checks that are reported back to the Governors annually, for example,
our value-added scores as reported by Durham University are extraordinary revealing that we out-perform both
the maintained and the independent sectors substantially for English and mathematics. In the secondary entrance
examinations The feedback we have, once again, shows that our boys have been exceedingly successful through
the receiving of offers from the best secondary grammar schools in our locality which, for the majority of our
families, is the objective. However, we also know, from those small numbers who relocate, either within or
outside the UK, that the education received at APS makes them sought after by the top international and national
independent/grammar schools. It is not, however, only academic quality that marks an APS boy; it is
symptomatically for us to receive favourable comment on manner by which our boys carry themselves as well as
their expression of humanity. This latter attribute gives us immense pride. In summary, a tribute to all the hard
work the boys deliver as well as the structures within the school and the quality of teaching delivered.
I hope you enjoy reading the following pages for you will find revealed a wealth of contribution and achievement.
Music, whether through whole school and choir singing, smaller ensembles and individual performances that is a
pleasure and privilege to share, sport involving all boys but also competing at the highest nationally, art and
technology, languages …….. and so I could go on!
I look forward to welcoming you all back on 13
