St.Ambrose U.9 Football Tournament – Runners Up
In a term that has seen all the Year 4 and 5 boys have the chance to play for the school at Rugby, all the Year 3
boys play for APS at Tag Rugby, all the Year 4 boys represent the school at “Quicksticks” Hockey and even all the
Year 2 boys enjoy playing for APS at football when the “tournament season” arrived, it was also fantastic to see
APS excel amongst some of the strongest sporting schools in the country.
The Terra Nova U.11 yrs Rugby Sevens Tournament was won with an emphatic 40 points – nil victory over St
Mary’s, Stonyhurst.
As Midlands and North Preparatory Schools U.11 yrs Hockey Champions, APS proceeded to knock Millfield out of
the National Finals group stages and go on to finish in a creditable 5
th
place.
APS then went on to beat Kirkham Grammar School in the final of the North of England Schools U.11 yrs Hockey
Tournament held at Leeds University to gain their second prestigious title of the season.
Meanwhile on the same day the Year 5 footballers retained the Altrincham Schools 5-a-side trophy with some
really skilful play.
The U9 yrs footballers completed a fantastic week and season by reaching the final of the St.Ambrose tournament
finishing runners-up to King’s Chester.
The following week was nearly as good as both Year 3 and Year 4 teams won the Ladybarn Invitation Cross
Country and an APS Hockey “B” team won the Ryleys U.11 Hockey Festival. Meanwhile the Rugby Sevens team
were absolutely superb at the prestigious Stonyhurst 7’s beating London Oratory in the group matches, Donhead
(Wimbledon) 57pts – 0pts in the semi-final and in front of a packed 1
st
team pitch at Stonyhurst narrowly lost
28pts – 21pts to Coed Glas (Cardiff) in an exhilarating final.
